Oriol Romeu claims boss Claude Puel’s squad rotation at Southampton 'is important to keep everyone fresh for the next challenge'.
The 24-year-old Spanish midfielder has spoken out in support of his manager after the French tactician attracted some criticism after rotating his players regardless of how well they are performing.
Puel made seven changes for the 3-0 Europa League win against Sparta Prague on Thursday before changing six of those for the 1-0 win against Swansea on Sunday.
Striker Charlie Austin was dropped from the starting XI for the Premier League game, despite scoring twice in Europe, and then came off the bench to grab the winner against the Swans.
More changes are no doubt in the offing on Wednesday when Saints host Crystal Palace in the third round of the EFL Cup, but Romeu believes it is the way forward for the club.
He told the Daily Echo: "We need to keep winning and just doing the same, and rotation is important to keep everyone fresh for the next challenge.
"The season is very long with a lot of games and competition. The whole squad is important, we are proving that so far and we just want to keep doing the same."
He added: "Whoever is playing knows his job, knows what we have to do on the pitch. We have a great squad and great numbers, so whoever’s out there will do his job properly."
