Celtic v CFR Cluj – Team News

Celtic boss Neil Lennon says he will not be making sweeping changes to his squad as they look to maintain their recent momentum.

Celtic can move a step closer to the Champions League group stage by seeing off CFR Cluj at Parkhead on Tuesday.

The two teams will head into the second leg of their third qualifying round tie having played out a 1-1 draw in Romania last week, with Celtic winger James Forrest cancelling out Mario Rondon’s opener for the hosts.

That away goal will make Celtic the slight favourites heading into the second leg, particularly given their recent record in home qualifiers as they are unbeaten in their last 14.

Neil Lennon’s side have also started the new domestic season in emphatic fashion, scoring 12 goals in their opening two games and St Johnstone and Motherwell.

However, the Bhoys will be without injured trio Tom Rogic, Eboue Kouassi and Daniel Arzani for Tuesday’s match, while they have fitness doubts surrounding midfielder Mikey Johnston.

Cluj have also made a strong start domestically, winning four and drawing one of their opening five Romanian top-flight games, a run that already sees them sitting two points clear at the top of the standings, and they seem well placed to challenge for a third successive Liga I title.

The Railwaymen have also lost just one of their last eight Champions League away games and, if they can repeat the 2-2 draw they achieved in Israel against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the last qualifying round, they will advance through to the next stage.

Veteran midfielder Emmanuel Culio remains a doubt for the trip to Glasgow after missing the first leg through injury and his potential absence would certainly be a blow to Dan Petrescu’s side.

Whoever advances through on Tuesday night will face Slavia Prague in the play-off round, with the winner of that tie earning their place in the Champions League group stage.
