Bauer completes Celtic move

Celtic boss Neil Lennon said he couldn't 'ask any more of the players' after their emphatic 5-0 win over Nomme Kalju in the Champions League.

Celtic have confirmed they have signed defender Mortiz Bauer on a season-long loan deal from Stoke City.

The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the bet365 Stadium, and he has now been given a chance to reignite his career in Scotland.

Bauer, an Austria international, signed for Stoke in 2018 and he made 23 appearances for the Potters after leaving Rubin Kazan.

Boss Neil Lennon still has a few more days left to sign new players before the September 2 deadline and Bauer is confident he can make an impact at Celtic Park.

He told the clubโ€™s official website: โ€œIโ€™m really, really looking forward to it. I know about the stadium, the historical Celtic Park, and I hope that I can win trophies here and have a very successful season.

โ€œItโ€™s a massive club with a big history and when you see the stadium from the outside and the players there who have already worn the jersey – they are big names.

โ€œI love being here and having the target of being first as I like that pressure. There are players here who have already won titles, and itโ€™s a big opportunity for me to learn from them and grow as a player as I hope to be part of a successful team.โ€

Bauer is now set to compete with Kristoffer Ajer for the right-back spot after Zenit St Petersburg pulled out of the race to sign the Norwegian.
