Lennon – We are ready for the derby

Celtic boss Neil Lennon sees Hoops crash out of Champions League.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon says his side are ready for the Glasgow derby this Sunday after their dominant win over AIK on Thursday.

The Hoops booked their place in the Europa League group stages after beating AIK 4-1 in Sweden.

Lennon’s men eventually secured a 6-1 aggregate success, and they will now play in Group E alongside Lazio, Stade Rennais and CFR Cluj.

Goals from James Forrest, Mikey Johnston, Christopher Jullien and Lewis Morgan gave Celtic a morale-boosting win before they play Rangers and Lennon says everyone is ready to take on Steven Gerrard’s men.

He told the club’s official website: “There’s no respite, there are just a few days now until the next one. We’ll get them in on Saturday. They’re off today (Friday), so we’ll get them well-rested and recovered.

“Psychologically that’ll give them a huge boost going into Sunday. I hope the fans enjoyed it. It’s been a difficult month at times, and I get that. The players have focused on trying to put on performances, and I think they did that in Sweden.”

Celtic’s first game in Europe will take place on Thursday, September 19, before they then play two games in October and November.

Their final group game will go ahead on Thursday, December 12.
