McGregor in line for Celtic pay rise

Celtic are reportedly ready to offer Callum McGregor a big pay rise in a bid to keep the Scotland star at the club.

Football Insider claims McGregor is set to be offered £35,000 a week to commit his long-term future to the Parkhead outfit.

The midfielder attracted plenty of interest during the summer transfer window, with boss Neil Lennon admitting the club had received an approach for the 26-year-old.

It is believed Leicester, managed by former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, wanted to take him to the Premier League, but McGregor, who helped the Hoops win another domestic treble last season, stayed put.

A product of the club’s academy, McGregor has made more than 200 appearances for the Bhoys.

His current Celtic contract, signed in December, is not due to expire until the summer of 2023, meaning Celtic will be able to demand a fee somewhere in the region of £20million for his services.

Following the ongoing international break, the Scottish champions return to Premiership action at Hamilton on Saturday.
