Ajer given huge backing by Elyounoussi

Celtic winger Mohamed Elyounoussi says Kristoffer Ajer is good enough to play in the English Premier League.

Elyounoussi only signed for Celtic in the summer on a season-long loan deal from Southampton having struggled to make an impact on the south coast.

He knew Ajer upon joining the Parkhead outfit due to the duo being team-mates at international level for Norway and has been extremely impressed with what he has seen.

The defender has been with Celtic since making the switch from IK Start in 2016 under Brendan Rodgers, and has featured 90 times in all competitions for the Hoops, as well as enjoying a loan spell with Kilmarnock in 2017.

Reports linked the centre-back with a move away from Celtic Park in the summer, with Zenit St Petersburg among the teams understood to be interested.

And, Elyounoussi has potentially stoked more fires, by saying his compatriot is good enough to play in the Premier League.

“He has been here for a couple of years and done very well. I expect to see him in a bigger club and a bigger league,” he said.

“From what I’ve seen of him in the past and now on a daily basis in training and in games, he is more than good enough for the Premier League.”

Despite the fact Celtic made a good start to the season – securing a 2-0 away victory at Rangers in early September, a run of only one point from their last two games has seen them dip below their fierce rivals in the table.
