McGregor plays down Edouard injury
Midfielder Callum McGregor feels Celtic can still win the Betfred Cup final against Rangers without Odsonne Edouard.
The Frenchman remains a doubt for the game, with Edouard missing the last few weeks through injury but Celtic have still managed without him as Neil Lennon’s troops have extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches.
The Hoops are now two points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after they beat Hamilton 2-1 on Wednesday, while Rangers drew 2-2 with Aberdeen.
The first trophy of the season is up for grabs this weekend and Celtic are still on the lookout for a sensational quadruple treble.
Edouard has netted on 14 occasions this term, but McGregor claims both Leigh Griffiths and Lewis Morgan should be able to fill in for him.
“We’ve got a great squad and that has probably been demonstrated over the last three or four games without Odsonne,” he told reporters. “He is such a big player for us at home and in Europe, but Lewis has stepped up and scored the goal against Rennes.
“Leigh will be definitely champing at the bit too. Obviously, with all the big games, you are desperate play. Even last night was another step forward for Leigh, he looked a bit sharper again when he came on and helped us to get the winning goal.”
Celtic claimed the last meeting between the clubs in September, with Neil Lennon’s men winning 2-0 at Ibrox. Rangers coach Steven Gerrard has undoubtedly helped his team improve during his tenure, and the former Liverpool captain will be out to win his first trophy since taking charge in 2018.
