Middleton heads out to Hibs

Glenn Middleton revealed how Steven Gerrard sent him out for his first Rangers start with instructions to give Ayr '90 minutes of pure hell'.

Rangers winger Glenn Middleton has been sent out on loan to Hibernian until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old made his debut against FK Shkupi in July 2018 after impressing Steven Gerrard in pre-season and has gone on to play 27 times for the first team, scoring five goals.

Middleton’s form in the early part of last term saw him rewarded with a new deal until 2023. However, with competition for places high at Ibrox, the decision has been taken to send him on loan to Hibs.

The former Norwich youngster was also the subject of interest from Dutch Eerste Divisie side NAC Breda, while Doncaster were also thought to be keen in June.

Easter Road boss Paul Heckingbottom has hailed the new boy as “direct, quick and will add different qualities to the squad”.

Middleton says he cannot wait to get going, with a place in the side for Saturday’s Scottish League Cup tie with Greenock Morton his first goal in Leith.

He said: “I’m really pleased to have everything sorted and I just can’t wait to get started.

“I know I’ll need to work hard to make a good impression and that Paul has a lot of good players to choose from, but I’d love to be involved on Saturday against Greenock Morton.”
