Goldson – We stepped up when it mattered

Connor Goldson hopes Steven Gerrard can get Rangers' on-loan stars Ryan Kent and Joe Worrall signed up for next season.

Rangers defender Connor Goldson says every member of the squad ‘stepped up’ as they qualified for the Europa League group stages.

Thursday’s game at Ibrox looked set for extra-time and penalties, but Alfredo Morelos netted late on to give Rangers a 1-0 win.

That goal was enough to help Rangers advance into the next round and they can now look forward to games against FC Porto, Feyenoord and Young Boys.

Steven Gerrard’s men have to play Celtic this weekend before they can start planning for their games in Europe, but Goldson says everyone who played deserves a pat on the back.

He told the Rangers official website: “I’m over the moon. It is the first of two big jobs done so we have got 48 hours to prepare for the next one.

“It’s massive, I said this last year that all the lads that have come here want to play Europa League football and I think that is a massive selling point for this football club so the fact that we can get there for a second year in a row it does everything for the profile of the club and for the profile of us as players.

“As a player for Rangers you have to step up in ties like that, and I think to a man today we were brilliant, and overall we definitely deserved the win.”
