Rangers teenager keen to impress at Hibernian
Rangers winger Glenn Middleton has vowed to give his all on loan at Hibernian as he attempts to impress Jack Ross.
The 19-year-old struggled to impose himself at Ibrox after joining Rangers from Norwich in January 2018.
He scored five times in 28 games across all competitions in 2018-19 but wasn’t deemed ready to compete for a regular spot this season.
Rangers sanctioned a loan move to Premiership rivals Hibernian for the 2019-20 campaign in the hope of furthering Middleton’s development.
However, Hibernian have struggled for results this term and sit eighth in the Premiership after just two wins from 12 games.
Hibs’ lack of form saw Paul Heckingbottom get the boot on November 4 and former Sunderland boss Ross was drafted in as his successor.
The international break has given Ross extra time to prepare for his first game in charge and Middleton wants to ensure he is part of the manager’s plans.
“At times it has been frustrating at Hibs recently but hopefully I can kick on under the new manager,” Middleton told the Daily Record.
“Ultimately it’s down to me to prove I can do the things the coach asks of me. I don’t want to be sitting on the bench. I’m desperate to play, so hopefully I can get that chance soon.”
Middleton’s first opportunity to impress Ross comes on Saturday when fourth-placed Motherwell make the trip to Easter Road.
The Scotland Under-21 international will also have Steven Gerrard in the back of his mind as he looks to return to Gers on the back of a strong campaign.
Gerrard is not lacking in attacking options and Middleton will need to raise his game to force his way into the Liverpudlian’s plans.
