Hughes not giving up on Stoke forward

Mark Hughes does not believes Jese Rodriguez's Stoke career is over despite the striker being disciplined by the club.

The future of the Spaniard has been thrown in to question this week by reports he is looking to cut short his season-long loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain, with Real Betis prepared to offer him a way out in January.

The 24-year-old is said to be frustrated by a lack of game time at the bet365 Stadium, making just two substitute appearances since the loss to Bournemouth in October, and was visibly fed up with being on the bench for last week's win over Swansea.

The Potters have had to discipline Jese for leaving the bench before full-time in last week's game but Hughes insists the club are far from ready to give up on the summer arrival, despite his recent issues.

“Hopefully he will be back soon,” said Hughes, “but we're not thinking of him moving to different clubs or wherever. He's still very much in my plans.

“We see his talent every day, but he hadn't had the impact that we – and he probably - felt that he needed to show for a couple of weeks and he's been out of the team.

“He's just got to be patient. I brought him on against Liverpool because we were chasing the game, so he was an attacking substitution, whereas he didn't get the nod at the weekend (v Swansea) because it was a different situation where we were looking to protect a lead."

He added: "He made a mistake, he's been disciplined for that. He understands it wasn't the right decision at that time. It's been addressed. It's been highlighted what he needs to do in future."
