Stoke plot Onuoha swoop

Stoke City are reportedly eyeing up a move for Queens Park Rangers defender Nedum Onuoha.

Stoke have strengthened at the heart of defence this summer, adding France international Kurt Zouma on a season-long loan from Chelsea whilst Porto's Bruno Martins Indi is on the verge of joining for around £7million.

However, the Potters allowed right-back Phil Bardsley to join Burnley whilst Marc Muniesa, who can play across the back, is closing in on a move to Girona after falling down the pecking order at the bet365 Stadium.

Manager Mark Hughes is still searching for reinforcements and it is believed he has turned his attentions to Onuoha, who he managed at Manchester City before then signing the defender when in charge at QPR.

The Welsh tactician is eager to get a deal done before the window closes although the Hoops, who are under the guidance of Ian Holloway, are reportedly looking to extend the 30-year-old's contract at Loftus Road.

Premier League new boys Brighton are also said to be interested in Onuoha but Hughes is hoping his previous experience working with the former England Under-21 international will give him an edge in any negotiations.
