Speculation on Monday has indicated that Sunderland have lodged a club record bid for the 24-year-old Ghana international, believed to be around £14million, after his highly impressive displays at the World Cup.
Bruce has been in the market for a striker since Kenwyne Jones completed his move to Stoke and with Frazier Campbell having damaged his ankle ligaments in the 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday Sunderland's need for a striker has only deepened.
Gyan appears to be the man Bruce has in mind to partner Bent but with just over a day left to complete transfers time is running out for the Black Cats' boss to get his man.
Bruce said: "It's imperative, the chairman knows that. It was imperative before we started, so if we are going to lose Fraizer for a few months, then we have got to try to act if we possibly can."
