The on-loan Manchester City man was back in the middle of the back line for the goalless draw in the FA Cup last weekend at Burnley and, although David Moyes described the performance as poor, it was a big improvement on the thrashing they had at the same ground the week before in the Premier League.
Denayer came back in the side alongside Papy Djilobodji because of the injury to Lamine Kone and says he is happy to be back in the centre.
He told the Gazette: "It was difficult, very physical, a lot of long balls, with the second balls you never know but I think we defended well, and the clean sheet was important for us.
"For a defender to have a clean sheet is the most important thing. It’s good for me to play there, I was happy, it's like riding a bike, you don't forget it."
