The Chelsea loanee is hoping to help Swansea avoid the drop this season, after joining the Swans on loan in the summer.
He has already scored three goals in nine appearances in all competitions and his form could be crucial as Paul Clement's men look to enjoy a more comfortable campaign than they did last time out.
Makelele has claimed Abraham can be as successful as Didier Drogba but he must work harder going forward.
He told the London Evening Standard: "He's young and he has time on his side. He wants to be one of the best strikers in the Premier League. He gets an example in the way Drogba and [Samuel] Eto'o play. But to do [what they did] he must work like they did.
"He needs to adapt very well but we will push him. But he has to show the ambition to reach the top.
"He's good. But he has to push himself and learn more. Then he can be one of the best strikers in the Premier League."
