Sigurdsson ruled out of opening match

Gylfi Sigurdsson will not feature in Swansea' opening Premier League game of the season on Saturday against Southampton.

The Iceland international has not featured in any of the Swans' pre-season fixtures this summer and boss Paul Clement looks set to continue his exile as the new season kicks off this weekend.

He has been constantly linked with a £50million move to Everton this summer, but the two clubs have been struggling to agree terms on the transfer and the saga looks set to drag on for the remainder of the transfer window.

Sigurdsson has been training with the Swans but his lack of match sharpness, plus his desire to leave, had left Clement with no choice but to rule him out of selection for the first game.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman made the 27-year-old his number one target in the summer and is reportedly disappointed the deal has not yet been done.
