Injury rules Konta out of Singapore

British number one Johanna Konta will miss the WTA Finals this month after picking up a foot injury.

Konta had slipped out of the eighth and final position in the Race to Singapore standings recently due to her poor form and the impressive performances of Caroline Garcia.

The 26-year-old, ranked number 10 in the world, had lost in the first round of her previous four tournaments before pulling out of the Hong Kong Open earlier this month because of a foot issue.

She had hoped to return to fitness in Moscow for the Kremlin Cup next week but the Brit has been forced to withdraw from the event, ending her chance of making a first appearance at the season-ending WTA Finals.

Konta's withdrawal from the event in Russia means Frenchwomen Garcia has been assured of a place in Singapore and the line-up for the prestigious tournament has been confirmed.

Simona Halep, Garbine Muguruza, Karolina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina, Caroline Wozniacki, Venus Williams and Jelena Ostapenko make up the other seven competitors.
