Kvitova targets French return

Petra Kvitova has revealed she could return to action in time for the French Open after making good progress with a hand injury.

The 27-year-old has been on the sidelines since December after suffering damage to the tendons and nerves in her left hand after being stabbed by an intruder at her home, an injury that was expected to keep her out for six months at least.

However the Czech star has taken to Instagram to tell fans her recovery is going better that expected and there is an outside chance she could play at Roland Garros, which begins on May 28.

"My name will appear on the entry list for Roland Garros tomorrow because, as the entry deadline approached, I had made good progress in my recovery process and I want to give myself every last opportunity to be able to compete at one of my favourite events," she posted.

"This unfortunately does not mean necessarily that I will be ready to play in Paris, but that I'm doing everything possible to give myself the chance and keep a positive mindset."
