Monfils disappointed with start

World number 10 Gael Monfils says he is searching for confidence after making a sluggish start to the 2017 campaign.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a strong 2016 season after he reached a career-high ranking of number six, making it to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and the semi-finals of the US Open.

However, the Frenchman has been unable to carry momentum into 2017 and crashed out of the Australian Open in round four.

Monfils admits the campaign has so far been well below his expectations but hopes to fine-tune his game and challenge at the rest of the Grand Slam events.

Monfils said: "I realise that there are always some difficult times to go through during a season and that I need to continue to work to overcome this situation.

"My focus is on fine-tuning my preparation for the tournaments to come and (to) find some confidence again."
