The world number one has endured an indifferent start to the season as, despite winning the Dubai Tennis Championships earlier this month, he has suffered early exits in both the Australian Open and this week's BNP Paribas Open.
The Briton has now confirmed that he will miss next week's tournament in Florida due to an elbow problem, admitting that he will now focus on returning to full fitness ahead of the upcoming clay-court season.
"Sadly, due to a right elbow injury, I won't be playing in Miami," said Murray. "Apologies to the fans, it's one of my favourite tournaments. The focus now is on getting ready for the clay season."
There is no exact timescale for how long the 29-year-old will be sidelined for, but he will be hoping to return well ahead of the French Open, with the second major of the year due to get under way at Roland Garros in May.
