The Australian has been out of action since suffering a stress fracture at the French Open in May and the 33-year-old was forced to miss the entire grass court season, including Wimbledon, as a result.
Stosur is working hard on her recovery and is keen to be fit for the final Grand Slam of the year, which begins in New York on August 28.
She said: "Obviously, we've seen a few champions of the game take some breaks so hopefully this can somehow help me.
"If I can kind of come back a little bit refreshed and hopefully pick up from where I left off during the French, that'd be great.
"It's getting there. It's been a slower recovery than I would have liked. But I've been on court a lot more this week and I'm really going to start to pick it up and really push to get over to New York."
If she makes it, Stosur will be aiming to emulate her 2011 victory at the US Open, the only Grand Slam title she has won in her career.
