Zverev wins in Montreal

Germany's Alexander Zverev caused an upset at the Rogers Cup when defeating Roger Federer 6-3 6-4 in the final.

The 20-year-old picked up his fifth title in what has been an impressive 2017, and in the process became just the third man to beat Federer this year.

The Swiss legend appeared to be hampered by injury late in the match, but nothing can be taken away from Zverev, who extended his winning run to 10 matches.

Federer confirmed after the match that he would assess his fitness, but still hoped to play in the Cincinnati Open next week, when if results go his way, he could still take the world number one ranking.

Either the 36-year-old or Rafael Nadal will replace Andy Murray at the top of the standings on 21 August.
