Defender targets Spurs role
Tottenham, Latest news update:
Tottenham defender Steven Caulker is hoping his form for Team GB at the Olympics has caught the eye of his club boss Andre Villas-Boas.
Caulker helped Stuart Pearce's men to the quarter-finals of the competition before their elimination to South Korea in a penalty shoot-out on Saturday.
The 20-year-old, who signed a four-year contract this summer, is desperate for the chance to prove his worth at White Hart Lane after spending all of last season gaining Premier League experience with Swansea City.
Former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp had been planning to thrust the youngster into his first-team squad this term before his departure this summer, and Caulker is now hoping his successor is just as keen on aiding his development.
He told the Daily Star on Sunday: "He [Villas-Boas] seems a very interesting guy with lots of great ideas.
"It's a big positive for the club and he seems to put his trust in the young lads.
"The Olympics has been the perfect way for me to show the new manager what I can do and to make sure I am not out of sight."
