Spurs linked with Van Gaal
Spurs are reportedly lining up a move for Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.
Despite a crucial victory over Everton on Sunday, the race for Champions League football is extremely close and Liverpool are currently three points ahead of Tim Sherwood's men in fourth spot.
According to reports Spurs, held talks with Van Gaal after they dismissed Andre Villas-Boas but he wants to concentrate on the World Cup Finals with Holland this summer and did not want to try to hold down two jobs at one go.
That will change after the World Cup and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will be closely monitoring the situation and anything less than fourth will put enormous pressure on Sherwood.
Van Gaal recently revealed he will be looking for a club job after the World Cup.
"Look at my CV. I have won a trophy every season during my club career," he said. "I am a winner and craving a trophy. This is why I am sick of being a national coach. I only see the players eight times a year. I am not enjoying the job of national coach at all.
"After the World Cup I want to coach a big club again and win trophies. Otherwise I will retire."
