Tottenham could take on Toffees for Gomes
Everton could find their attempts to seal Andre Gomes’ permanent transfer from Barcelona complicated by Tottenham’s renewed interest.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino let slip that his club’s chief scout Steve Hitchen was at the Merseyside derby on Sunday and could only offer a lame explanation as to why.
Tottenham were reportedly interested in the Portugal midfielder last summer although Everton beat them to a loan deal.
Everton paid a £2million fee to get him for the season but failed to agree a purchase price to convert it into a permanent transfer at the end of his stay.
Toffees officials remain confident they can seal the signing and believe Gomes is very happy on Merseyside.
Barcelona want to recoup the £29million fee they paid Valencia for Gomes in 2016 and, based on his performances so far, they won’t struggle to achieve that figure – particularly if there is competition from elsewhere in the Premier League.
