Brentford are chasing the signature of ‘charismatic’ Dijon goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson, according to reports in Iceland.

Icelandic football expert Kristjan Oli Sigurdsson claims the Bees tried to purchase the 23-year-old from the Ligue 1 club in January – but without success.

‘They will do all they can this summer to land him,’ said Sigurdsson.

Last summer, Runarsson joined Dijon from Danish top-flight outfit Nordsjaellend – where he was coached by current Brentford goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana.

A member of Iceland’s 2018 World Cup squad, Runarsson is known to be quite a character and recently became the only Ligue 1 player to join the Common Goal movement, launched a year and a half ago by Juan Mata, in donating one per cent of his salary to the children’s charity.

The Bees already have two Icelandic players on their books, with Kolbeinn Birgir Finnsson and Patrik Sigurdur Gunnarsson both in the Brentford B squad.
