City star Silva in Real’s sights
Real Madrid will step up their attempts to sign Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva this summer, according to reports in Spain.
The Madrid press went into overdrive this week following Real’s shock Champions League exit to Ajax at the Bernabeu.
Along with a touted £150millon swoop for Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Los Blancos officials have identified Bernardo as a primary summer target and are said to be willing to pay in the region of £85m to now try and tempt him.
A classic Madrid tactic is to drip feed their interest in players at rival clubs, in a bid to turn their heads, with David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale being the most high-profile of successes.
And bosses at the Etihad will now be praying the skillful 24-year-old will put his name quickly to a new six-year contract recently offered by them.
The Citizens are in a rush to tie down the former Monaco playmaker, who they signed for £43m in 2017, knowing Madrid have been hovering since the turn of the year.
The Portugal international has three years remaining on his City deal but his excellent displays this term have brought things sharply into focus, and Madrid’s notorious charm offensive.
