Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is reportedly set to return to former club Liverpool to sign striker Daniel Sturridge this summer.

Rodgers will be looking to stamp his authority on the Foxes squad after only being appointed as Claude Puel’s successor in February and it appears he is interested in bringing in Sturridge, a player he knows well.

The duo spent the best part of three years working together at Anfield, with Rodgers actually signing Sturridge from Chelsea in January 2013, while the 29-year-old also played a major role in Liverpool’s near title miss of five years ago.

However, since then Sturridge has struggled with numerous injuries and he has fallen down the pecking order under Rodgers’ successor Jurgen Klopp, starting just two Premier League games to date this term.

The former Manchester City youngster is out of contract this summer and there are no signs that Liverpool will offer him fresh terms.

That means Sturridge will be available on a free transfer and it appears Rodgers is keen to make him one of his first signings at Leicester.

The former Celtic boss has previously stated that signing a new striker is one of his top priorities, as he wants to provide competition and support to leading scorer Jamie Vardy, who has led the line on his own for the majority of the campaign.
