The agent of Club Brugge striker Wesley says Newcastle are contenders to sign the Brazilian once Rafa Benitez’s future is sorted out.

The 17-goal striker, who has been linked to Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain this season, has confirmed that he is leaving the Belgian club this summer.

But, according to the player’s agent, it is now Newcastle, Lazio and West Ham that are showing the greatest interest in Wesley.

Paulo Nehmy told TheLaziali: ‘Is Lazio still interested? Yes, it is true that Lazio is interested, but there is a difference between being close and closing the agreement, and it will still require negotiations.

‘What about Newcastle? Are they still in the fight? Yes, it is also true.

We’ve already had a chat with them, but Rafa Benitez has to renew his contract.

West Ham has also contacted us.

‘ The 22-year-old centre forward has previously stated that he would prefer to come to English football.
