United press ahead in Longstaff pursuit
The representatives of Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff have reportedly held positive talks with Manchester United.
Englishman Longstaff broke onto the scene at St James’ Park last season, forming an impressive midfield partnership with Isaac Hayden from Boxing Day until the start of March.
The 21-year-old’s campaign was cut short after he picked up a knee injury in the 2-0 defeat at West Ham on March 2 but his impressive performances for the Magpies did enough to catch the eye of United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to bring in young talent this summer, having already signed Wales international Dan James from Swansea City while a deal for Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is in the offing.
The Red Devils have been keeping a close eye on Longstaff and the latest reports are claiming talks have already started between the Old Trafford outfit and the midfielder’s representatives.
With uncertainty surrounding Rafael Benitez’s future at Newcastle and the proposed takeover appearing to stall, Longstaff could be tempted into a move to the Theatre of Dreams.
