Johnson rules out sale for Magpies target
Newcastle have been knocked back with their hopes of signing Adam Webster with Bristol City boss Lee Johnson saying he’s not for sale.
The Magpies, along with newly-promoted Aston Villa, have both been linked with a move for the Robins centre-back, who impressed in the Championship last season.
Reports had suggested Webster had a £12m release clause in his contract at Ashton Gate and that Newcastle could look to trigger that in their efforts to land the talented defender.
However, Johnson has come out and rubbished those claims and says he is determined to see Webster remain at the club ahead of the new Championship campaign.
‘I think the first port of call is that we understand the speculation because he’s a fantastic player,’ Johnson said.
‘Our stance is that we don’t want to lose Adam Webster.’
