Hutton set to make Wigan move
Wigan Athletic are ready to offer experienced defender Alan Hutton a contract following his release by Aston Villa.
Latics boss Paul Cook is keen to bring in proven Championship players this summer and has targeted Hutton, 34, who is available on a free transfer.
Some reports say detailed talks have already been held with the Scot and Wigan are hoping to announce a deal in the coming days.
Hutton made 33 appearances for Villa last season, playing his part in their rise to the play-offs and ultimately promotion, before a hamstring injury in February curtailed his campaign.
Hutton did make a farewell appearance on the final day of the regular season and, with his contract officially expiring at the end of the month, is free to talk to other clubs about the upcoming campaign.
Hutton has been with Villa since 2011 but initially struggled to establish himself and had loan moves to Nottingham Forest, Mallorca and Bolton before becoming a key member of the side in recent years.
