Canaries join queue of clubs targeting Gibson swoop
Norwich are one of several clubs believed to be vying for the signature of Burnley central defender Ben Gibson.
The 26-year-old endured a frustrating debut season with the Clarets after joining in a £15million deal from hometown club Middlesbrough 12 months ago.
A combination of injury problems and the form of James Tarkowski and Ben Mee meant he barely figured for the side which has resulted in speculation linking him with a move away from Turf Moor.
Turkish side Besiktas were rejected when attempting to sign him on loan, while Middlesbrough are thought to be keen to re-sign him on loan.
However, that looks a non-starter because Gibson wants to remain in the top-flight to boost his England aspirations after he was called up to senior squad during 2017.
Reports at the end of last week suggested Gibson is happy to stay put and fight for his place in Sean Dyche’s plans, but the offer of regular first-team action in the Premier League with the Canaries might appeal to him.
City are unlikely to pay £15m for Gibson, but could offer the player a season-long loan switch to Carrow Road.
Fellow Premier League new-boys Aston Villa are also believed to be lining up a swoop as Dean Smith looks to bolster his backline in the transfer window.
