Chelsea set seven-day deadline to snap up midfielder
Chelsea have just one week to make a decision on whether or not they want to keep Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic for next season.
Despite being under a transfer ban, Chelsea are able to wrap up a permanent deal for the Croatian, who spent last season on loan at Stamford Bridge, and is a registered player.
They also have the option to sign him on another loan deal or send him back to Real, but as things stand a decision has not been made, and the clock is ticking.
Chelsea will have to decide by July 1, but the appointment of their next manager, thought to be Frank Lampard, is taking centre stage and holding up the whole process.
It remains to be seen whether Lampard would see Kovacic in his plans moving forward, but decision may have to be made before he is appointed into the role.
Kovacic is keen to stay after being told he is not in the plans of Real boss Zinedine Zidane, and it could be worth keeping him on loan for another season at the very least due to the club’s current transfer predicament.
