Gunners handed cash boost in defender pursuit
Arsenal are set to sign Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba but will not have to spend most of their transfer budget just yet.
The Gunners are close to signing Saliba in a deal worth £27million, with the defender then set to return to the French side on loan for the whole of next season.
The Ligue 1 side are insisting that the 18-year-old returns on loan and Arsenal look set to agree, which comes as something of a surprise considering money is reported to be tight at the Emirates Stadium.
The deal is reported to be worth £27million, a big portion of their transfer budget for a player who would not be able to play for them for 12 months.
However, it has now been claimed that Arsenal will part with just a small fee up front this summer to secure the deal, and will then pay the balance in 12 months when Saliba hooks up with the rest of the Gunners squad.
Reports in France say talks are at an advanced stage and a deal is close to being agreed between the two clubs.
