Everton face renewed battle to retain midfielder
Reports in France claim Paris Saint-Germain continue to hold an interest in Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye.
The French giants first expressed an interest in Gueye during the January transfer window, but Everton refused to allow one of their star players to depart.
PSG have continued to monitor Gueye’s situation in the meantime and remain keen on striking up a deal this summer, according to French publication L’Equipe.
Gueye is currently on international duty with Senegal, having netted in Thursday’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final to help set up a last-four meeting with Tunisia, and he is unlikely to complete a move until after the competition.
But PSG may even struggle to force through a deal after the continental cup concludes on July 19 as Everton have no desire to sell.
Indeed, they are in a strong position due to the fact that Gueye’s current deal isn’t set to expire until June 2022.
L’Equipe claims PSG are putting together an offer of £27million but Everton‘s ambition to return to Europe means they will likely stand firm once again.
