Griezmann’s Barca move completed
Barcelona have now completed the signing of Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid to end the speculation over the France striker’s future.
The 28-year-old has long been linked with a switch to the Catalans but rejected the chance to make the move last summer.
It was thought that stance might have ended his hopes of one day playing for the Nou Camp giants.
However, Barca made their thoughts on the player known at times last term and have now paid the 120million euros buyout clause to secure his signature.
A statement on the La Liga giants’ website read: ‘FC Barcelona has paid the 120million euro buyout clause to release Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.
‘The player will sign a contract with his new club for the next five seasons, through to 30 June 2024, with a buyout clause of 800 million euros.
‘ Griezmann, who scored 133 goals from 257 appearances in all competitions for Atletico, having moved to the Wanda Metropolitano from Real Sociedad in 2014, signed a new five-year deal in June 2018.
But he announced in May he would be leaving the club this summer.
