Chelsea set to loan out Villa target
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says he wants to send youngster Ethan Ampadu out on loan – and Aston Villa are one of the clubs interested.
The 18-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, has been linked with Villa this summer and now Lampard has confirmed he hopes the Welsh youngster will go out on loan this season.
Ampadu is not part of the Blues’ travelling squad for their summer tour to Japan and must now decide where he wants to play his football in the new campaign.
Villa are just one of several Premier League and Championship clubs who are watching Ampadu’s situation and will be pleased with Lampard’s comments detailing how he is set to be available for a loan move.
Lampard said: ‘Ethan is not here as we’re looking at the possibility of him going on loan for the season.
‘I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year, so I’m a big fan, but with the minutes he played last year, I have to think of the bigger picture and the interests of Ethan and of Chelsea.’
