Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt is being linked with a move away from the club with Italian giants AC Milan said to be in the hunt.

The 25-year-old does not figure in the plans of Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl and was shipped out on loan to La Liga outfit Celta Vigo in the January window.

The Spaniards had the option to take him on a permanent basis at the end of the loan deal but did not take it up and he is now back at St Mary’s.

How long he remains at the club is another matter and reports now claim that his agent is pushing for a move to AC Milan, who are known to be in the hunt for a new central defender.

His agent, Kees Vos, is reported to have met with AC Milan officials in the hope of agreeing a deal, but it is unclear whether the Rossoneri are keen.

The player has three years remaining on his Saints deal but looks unlikely to see it out.
