Hermoso latest man to join Atletico
Atletico Madrid have continued their heavy spending this summer with the signing of Espanyol defender Mario Hermoso.
Diego Simeone has been looking for a replacement for experienced man Diego Godin since he left the club on a free transfer to join Inter Milan.
They have turned to the 24-year-old Hermoso, who has agreed a five-year contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Atletico have paid Espanyol around 25million euros for his signature with 4million euros in potential add-ons, as the three-time Spain international only had a year remaining on his contract.
He is the latest arrival in Atletico’s summer spending spree, with Joao Felix being the headline buy after signing from Benfica for £112million, though they have recouped money from Barcelona for Antoine Griezmann.
And Atletico are confident that the impressive defender will prove to be a good buy.
‘We welcome an extraordinary player, who, despite his youth, has experience and a promising future,’ a statement read on the Atletico website.
‘He arrives to make our squad stronger and we wish him all the best in this beautiful new challenge at Atletico de Madrid.’
