Crystal Palace are reportedly weighing up a move for Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson.

Former England boss Roy Hodgson admitted Palace ‘have enormous problems’ in defence due to injuries to three first-team players and Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s departure to Manchester United for an initial £45million.

The 71-year-old Englishman, who is the oldest manager in Premier League history, is eager to bring in reinforcements in defence, starting with a replacement for his star right-back that left for Old Trafford.

Having missed out on Max Aarons, who signed a new five-year contract with Norwich on Wednesday, and Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne, Hodgson’s attention has now turned towards England international Jenkinson.

The 27-year-old full-back, who can play across the back if required, has struggled to break into Arsenal’s first team on a regular basis since arriving in 2011 and he has under 12 months left on his contract.

Not wanting to lose the defender on a free transfer, the Gunners are reportedly ready to accept bids of around just £1.

5million and Palace are willing to meet that valuation.
