Simpson tipped to join Celtic on trial
Danny Simpson is expected to join Celtic on trial next week with a view to earning a permanent contract at Parkhead.
The Premier League winner has been a free agent since leaving Leicester at the end of last season but could now be set for route back into the game north of the border.
The 32-year-old has a wealth of experience, making over 200 top-flight appearances for the likes of Manchester United, Queens Park Rangers, Newcastle and Leicester, including 30 outings during the Foxes’ shock title success in 2016.
Celtic have been in search of a new right-back for most of the summer following the departure of Mikael Lustig, with Kristoffer Ajer being forced to deputise in the position during both legs of their Champions League tie with Sarajevo.
Simpson would provide plenty of experience at right-back although it will take him time to build up his fitness after featuring just nine times across all competitions for Leicester last season.
The defender is expected to begin his trial period on Monday but the initial length of his stay is not yet known.
