Zinedine Zidane says he expects Gareth Bale to leave Real Madrid ‘soon’ amid ongoing speculation regarding the player’s future.

The Welshman fell out of favour during Zidane’s first spell in charge and after a busy summer that has seen Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy and Eder Militao arrive at the club, he looks unlikely to feature much in 2019-20.

Bale was left out of Saturday’s 3-1 pre-season defeat to Bayern Munich and the boss had no issue discussing his views on the player.

The player’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, subsequently told AFP that the Frenchman was a ‘disgrace’ but there appears little left for his client at the Bernabeu.

Zidane said: ‘We hope he leaves soon.

It would be best for everyone.

We are working on his transfer to a new team.

‘I have nothing personal against him, but there comes a time where things are done because they must be done.

‘ Bayern’s interest in Bale further added to the speculation after his omission against the German champions, while Manchester United, former side Tottenham and clubs in China have been linked with his signature.
