Villa ready to step up keeper search
Aston Villa are ready to increase their efforts to bring in a new goalkeeper and may turn their attentions to new targets.
Villa boss Dean Smith has been keen to bring in a new shot-stopper throughout the summer but has been left frustrated.
Jack Butland is rated as the Villans’ top target but Stoke are standing firm on their £23million valuation and, unless the Potters lower their demands, a deal for the England keeper appears unlikely.
Villa have also made a move for Burnley’s Tom Heaton but saw a bid in the region of £4m knocked back as the Clarets value the 33-year-old at £12m.
Reports have claimed Villa are planning another bid of £7m for Heaton and that may well be a final ‘take it or leave it’ offer for the Three Lions stopper as he has entered the final year of his deal at Turf Moor and would be a free agent next summer.
Cardiff City’s Neil Etheridge and Fulham’s Marcus Bettinelli are also rated as potential targets, and Smith is likely to have a few other names in mind as he steps up his hunt for a new keeper with just two weeks remaining until the transfer window closes.
