Gray makes Watford switch

Watford have confirmed the signing of striker Andre Gray from Burnley, for a club-record transfer fee thought to be £18million.

Gray has been heavily linked with a move away from Turf Moor this summer and reports earlier in the transfer window had suggested a switch to Newcastle United was on the cards.

But Watford have jumped in and agreed a fee with Burnley on Tuesday with Gray then sealing the move to Vicarage Road after completing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Gray becomes the most expensive player in the Hornets' history, beating the figures paid for Roberto Pereyra - who joined from Juventus for £11.7m - and Isaac Success, who cost £13.5m from Granada.

The former Brentford striker would also become the seventh new arrival at Vicarage Road this summer, following the signings of Richarlison, Tom Cleverley, Will Hughes, Nathaniel Chalobah, Kiko Femenia and Daniel Bachmann.
