Hornets bid to tie down stopper

Versatile Watford defender Adrian Mariappa is reportedly set to be handed a new contract to keep him at Vicarage Road.

The 23-year-old only signed a new two-year deal to keep him at the Championship outfit last summer, but boss Malky Mackay is thought to be keen on ensuring he is tied down for longer to try and avoid losing him to any bigger clubs.

Mariappa, who has come through the ranks at Watford, has enjoyed an impressive campaign for the Hornets and has captained the team on a number of occasions this term in the absence of Jay DeMerit.
