Watford have handed a new three-and-a-half year deal to teenage prospect Michael Folivi as they look to fend off potential interest.
The frontman signed his first professional contract with the Hornets while still a scholar and after positive signs of progression he has earned an improved deal.
Folivi has trained alongside the first team under Walter Mazzarri and his performances for the under-23’s suggest he has a bright future.
Connor Smith was the last academy graduate to feature for the senior side, in the EFL Cup loss to Preston, and Folivi is hoping to follow in his footsteps.
The youngster revealed he has spoken with Mazzarri and hopes to eventually force his way into contention.
Folivi said: “I spoke to the gaffer.
“Obviously he doesn’t speak the best of English but what I could take from it is that he is happy with me so I’ve just got to keep working hard in training.
“Watford are a well-know club for bringing players through and there is talent her.
“Players come from overseas and they bring different things to the game…but people are noticing my performances and I’m getting good feedback. I’m just got to get my head down and working hard as the dream is to be there consistently.”
