Baggies check on Benfica midfielder again

West Brom made another check on Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris, a transfer target from last summer, on Tuesday.

A major Baggies bid for the Greek midfielder reportedly only failed during the previous transfer window because Benfica were concerned about Ljubomir Fejsa’s fitness.

Samaris has been mainly a fringe player for the Portuguese champions this season and is expected to leave the club soon - as he will only have one year left on his contract next summer.

West Brom sent a scout to Benfica’s Champions League match against FC Basel on Tuesday night and, with the hosts already out of Europe, Samaris was expected to start in a weakened side.

However, he didn't do much to impress Albion's spy during his 73 minutes on the pitch and was awarded a mark of only 4/10 from A Bola.

Newcastle have also been linked to Samaris in the past and they also sent a scout to the Stadium on Light on Tuesday, along with over half of the Premier League.
