Baggies set to keep veteran

Steven Reid is poised to sign a new contract with West Brom having looked like he would be leaving on a Bosman free transfer.

The 32-year-old former Republic of Ireland midfielder's current deal at the Hawthorns is coming to an end this month and he even tweeted a 'thank you' message to Albion supporters earlier in the week which suggested he was departing.

Crystal Palace and several Championship clubs were all believed to be interested in signing Reid, who joined the Baggies in 2010 initially on a loan deal from Queens Park Rangers.

However, fresh talks between Reid and the club took place this week and the Birmingham Mail is now reporting that he is set to be offered a short-term deal, probably up to 12 months, in the near future.

It will come as a real boost to Reid as a lengthy injury lay-off last season, mainly because of a broken leg, meant he failed to make the number of appearances required to trigger a one-year option.
