Anelka joined the Baggies as a free agent this summer following a loan stint with Juventus in the latter half of the previous campaign.
Romelu Lukaku was West Brom's top scorer last season with 17 goals but the forward is back with parent club Chelsea and another loan move seems unlikely.
Ridgewell insists veteran Anelka is the man to replace Lukaku and expects the Frenchman to form an effective partnership with Long, who managed 11 goals over the course of last season.
"I'm sure Shane will be looking forward to it," he told the Birmingham Mail. "Him and Shane together could be frightening.
"I wouldn't want to be defending with those two running at me. As a pairing I'm sure they'll be very good for us."
